Travel chaos hits Sydney as a train derails on a major line – with services cancelled and passengers forced onto replacement buses

  • A freight train has derailed on the Blue Mountains Line in Sydney’s far west
  • The incident happened early on  Wednesday morning, causing major delays  

A freight train has derailed on the Blue Mountains Line west of Sydney, causing major delays to services all across the city.

The incident took place at around 5am on Wednesday, according to the NSW Deputy Premier Paul O’Toole.

Parts of train routes T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T7, T8, and T9 are all affected, as well as the Blue Mountains Line, the Southern Line and the Shoalhaven line.

‘The derailment has caused significant damage to track infrastructure between Lawson and Linden, which will take some time to repair,’ he said.

‘As a result, 20 buses have been sourced to replace trains between Lithgow and Springwood, some are running now.’

There are also three trains operating a shuttle service between Katoomba and Lithgow.
