Two separate investigations will examine into why one of Queensland’s new generation of commuter trains derailed.

The train came off the tracks at a rail maintenance depot at Ipswich, west of Brisbane, on Thursday afternoon.

It was undergoing testing when it veered from the tracks. Two workers on board weren’t hurt.

Footage from the crash scene shows the train sprawled across the tracks.

The front of the first carriage appears to have been badly damaged in the incident.

Transport Minister Jackie Trad says Queensland Rail and the National Rail Safety Regulator will investigate.

The incident doesn’t appear to have been caused by the train itself, she said.

A crane will be brought in on Friday morning to put the train back on the tracks, 9 News reported.

The public trains are needed for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but it is unclear if they will be ready for the event.
