Bournemouth have made their first summer signing after completing the free transfer of Ryan Fredericks from West Ham United.

The full-back will leave the Hammers following the expiry of his contract this month with the Premier League new boys confirming the two-year deal on their website following his medical on Wednesday.

Fredericks admitted he was delighted to join the south coast outfit, admitting manager Scott Parker had helped influence his decision to sign, while also claiming current Cherries star Junior Stanislas and former striker Callum Wilson also helped convince him to move to the Vitality Stadium.

‘I’m happy to get it over line and I can’t wait to get the season started,’ he told Bournemouth’s website.

‘The manager got in touch and was the first person I spoke to. I’ve had offers from various clubs but the manager was the one who showed the most interest in me, and the club in general, and really sold it well to me.

‘It’s been amazing the type of player he was. He’s installed that hard work ethic into the club and obviously the quality.

‘The games I have watched over the past couple of  seasons they have pretty much dominated and played a really nice style of football and I’m not surprised the impact he has had at the club.’

The move sees Fredericks link up once again with Parker who he played with at Fulham for two years before the now Bournemouth boss retired from his playing career in 2017.

Fredericks, who started his career at Tottenham Hotspur, then joined West Ham in 2018 making 77 appearances over the following four years.

The 29-year-old though has slipped down the pecking order at the London Stadium under David Moyes having struggled with injury with Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson having leaped ahead of him.

Southampton and Fulham were also thought to be keen on Fredericks before he committed to joining the Cherries.

Bournemouth will be keen to continue bolstering their defensive options having released Gary Cahill this summer.
