Trevor Nelson has confirmed he will replace Scott Mills on Radio 2’s coveted afternoon show following Zoe Ball’s exit.
The DJ, who has been hosting the 10pm to midnight slot for eight years, revealed he will begin at the end of January as he joked that it was ‘about time’ he got some ‘vitamin D.’
Speaking at Trevor Nelson’s Soul Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall, he said: ‘Now I have a public service announcement. I will be doing the afternoon show at the end of January.
‘It’s about time you got your vitamin D, cause I’m doing too many nighttime shows,’ Trevor said.
‘I’m really happy it’s going to be a great time, please join me, if you don’t listen please start listening,’ he added.

The shake-up follows the announcement that Scott Mills will take over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show from Zoe Ball, following her departure this month after six years in the role.
In November the veteran presenter, 54, revealed on air that she would be ‘stepping away from the early alarm call’ to start a new chapter and ‘focus on family.’
She is due to host her last slot on December 20 before Scott, 51, who currently hosts Radio 2’s weekday afternoon programme from 2 – 4pm, begins fronting the programme in early January.
As part of the reshuffle, Trevor will replace Scott’s early afternoon slot.
In a statement, he said: ‘It’s going to be great being on daytime. It’s the ultimate privilege as a broadcaster to entertain the nation on the biggest station in the UK every day.’
‘I’m looking to have lots of fun and will be bringing a bit of soul to the new show,’ he revealed.
The 60-year-old confirmed that his guess-the-artist game, Five Seconds to Name, will also transition with him to the new slot.

Trevor’s broadcasting career began on London’s Kiss FM in 1985, before he joined BBC Radio 1 in 1996 where he presented The Rhythm Nation, said to be the first national R&B show, until 2013.
From 2007, he presented the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1Xtra, and in 2008 he established a weekly soul and R&B show on Radio 2.
Trevor will also continue to host Trevor Goes Old Skool on BBC 1Xtra, airing Sundays from 11am to 1pm.
Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, said: ‘I’m thrilled to be able to move Trevor into Radio 2’s weekday daytime schedule.’
‘A true radio pioneer, Trevor is loved by his listeners, and I’m looking forward to hearing him bring a touch of hugely popular soul, funk and R&B to weekday afternoons,’ she added.
With Trevor making the leap to daytime, DJ Spoony will take over his former late-night Monday to Thursday slot.
The Good Groove show, which previously aired on Friday nights from 9 pm to 11pm, will now run Monday to Thursday from 10pm to midnight.
Trevor was joined at his annual sold out festive gig, which will air on Radio 2 over Christmas, by the likes of Kenny Thomas, Karen Sledge and the Kingdom Choir.
