Tributes to father who was ‘murdered’ after pub fight

Tributes to a murdered 39-year-old father-of-six said that he was ‘very talented’ and ‘brilliant’.   

The murder of Nathan Jones is thought to be linked to an earlier fight and police are now appealing for witnesses.

Mr Jones was thought to have been involved in the fight ten minutes before he was found with serious injuries in Leinster Avenue, Knowle at around 11.30pm on Friday.   

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the murder and a 32-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The police believe the altercation happened in the New Found Out pub on Green Street, Bristol and police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the fight. 

Tributes to Mr Jones include one from his mother, Stephanie Jones, which said: ‘I’m numb, I wish it was a dream from which I could wake.

‘He was a really, really nice kid.

‘He was a very, very talented man – a runner, a footballer, a carpenter, a roofer, he was brilliant,’ reports The Bristol Post

Mr Jones is the father of budding footballer Connor Jones, 18 who plays for Bristol Rovers.     

In a statement a Bristol Rovers spokesperson said: ‘The club was shocked, and saddened, to learn of the death of Nathan Jones, the father of a member of our development squad, Connor Jones.

‘We are committed to supporting Connor in any way we can and offer our condolences to Connor and his family on their loss.’

Detective Inspector Jim Taylor from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: ‘Our thoughts are very much with the victim’s family and our sole focus is on fully investigating the events leading up to this tragic incident.

‘I’d like to thank the local community for the help they’ve given us so far.’

In an appeal for witnesses DI Taylor said: ‘We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the New Found Out pub on Friday night who saw a disorder at about 11.20pm.   

‘If you saw any part of this incident, or were in the area of the pub and saw anything which could help, please call us.’
