Tricycle rider appears stunned after being rammed by an oncoming vehicle and knocked to the floor

Dashcam footage has captured the moment a car rams its bullbar into a tricycle rider who attempted to cross a busy road – and viewers are divided over who is at fault.

The video, uploaded to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page, shows the large car driving down the left lane of Pinjara Road in the Western Australian city of Mandurah, just after 12pm on Tuesday.

Two vehicles in the right lane can be seen slowing to a halt – moments before a man on a tricycle pedals out into the middle of the left lane and is hit by the car with the dashcam.

The vehicle slams on its brakes as the cyclist clings to the bullbar, the trike pushed out from under him.

The visibly stunned cyclist then climbs to his feet, glances through the windscreen and drags his tricycle onto the footpath.

Within an hour of being uploaded the clip was viewed more than 53,000 times, with hundreds of social media users weighing to give their take on who exactly was responsible for the near-catastrophic accident.

Many are apportioning blame to the cyclist, with one user claiming that he ‘should have used the pedestrian crossing or waited for a decent break in the traffic to make it across the road.’

Others, meanwhile, seem to think that the vehicles in the right lane are at fault for stopping and allowing the cyclist to enter the busy road in the first place.

‘That’s why cars shouldn’t stop for people wanting to cross the road when not at a crossing or intersection and especially not on a multiple lane road,’ wrote another Facebook user.

‘Even though the driver who stopped thought he was being courteous, he could’ve been the reason old mate ends up dead. Lucky man.’

Some claimed the driver with the dashcam should have taken note of the slowing traffic in the right lane and adjusted his own speed.

The accident occurred a mere stone’s throw from a traffic light intersection and crossing.
