TripAdvisor has revealed eye-popping facts and figures from 2017 that reveal the most and least reviewed tourist attractions, cities and countries around the globe.
And it has divulged that one country only got nine write-ups, while a small bakery in Portugal has received more than 10,000 reviews.
The travel website now has more than half-a-billion online reviews on its platform, where travellers can leave thoughts about their experiences in cities, at tourist attractions and in hotels and restaurants.

Some trends from 2017 are unsurprising, with London named as the most reviewed city. It gained over one million reviews on the site.
But this was in complete contrast to the African country of Eritrea, which was the least popular country on the review website, with only nine travellers contributing 17 write-ups.
Meanwhile, other astonishing statistics included the fact that a specialist bakery in Lisbon called Pateis de Belem received over 10,000 comments from hungry travellers – more than any other eatery in the world.
Turning to hotels, TripAdvisor revealed that the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic gained more reviews than any other in the world this year.

And the hotel that got the most reservations out of all of the others – using the TripAdvisor booking feature – was the Boston Park Plaza in Massachusetts.
The most reviewed tourist attraction was the famous Basilicia of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, with nearly 30,000 new posts.
While the most booked attraction on the site was the world’s tallest building – the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Meanwhile it appears that Japanese travellers are the most eager to share their experiences, as they on average wrote more reviews than any other nationality.

TripAdvisor also compiled stats from UK tourist spots, which again threw up some surprises.
The most reviewed hotel was the Premier Inn at Gatwick Airport, while the most booked hotel was the budget Ibis London Whitechapel on Brick Lane.
Meanwhile the eatery that gained the most reviews was African and vegetarian restaurant Shaka Zulu in the Camden area of London.
However, it’s no surprise that the most reviewed attraction was the London Eye and the most booked was the Warner Bros Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter.
