A truck driver has tragically been found dead in a warehouse coolroom.

Authorities launched an investigation after shocked workers made the grim discovery of their colleague’s body inside the coolroom at Shepparton in northern Victoria on Wednesday afternoon.

The alarm was raised after his vehicle was spotted at the workplace unattended and with the engine running, two hours after he had finished his shift for the day.

The transport worker, 50 was found in a low-oxygenated coolroom used to preserve apples.

WorkSafe is now investigating the incident.

It’s Victoria’s third workplace fatality this year, compared with 11 at the same time last year.

The two previous deaths in 2023 were agriculture-related, including a 65-year-old farm worker who died while moving cattle at Yarrawonga South in the state’s north.
