Donald and Melania Trump’s 13th wedding anniversary came and went without a mention by POTUS or FLOTUS, or any time slotted in the president’s schedule for any such celebration.
The first couple’s January 22 anniversary landed on Monday, in the middle of a busy news cycle that saw the president tweeting four times throughout the day solely on the government shutdown. Melania did not tweet or mention it on her own social media either. In fact, she remained completely mum on her social through the day.
And then, by nightfall on their anniversary, it was announced that the First Lady suddenly would no longer be joining him on a trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Icy: The president and Melania’s relationship has always appeared a distant one but under the spotlight of the presidency the stark contrast with past presidential relationships is glaring. The First Couple was last publicly together in this photo on January 15 returning to DC from FL
Melania’s communications director told CNN the trip was cancelled due to ‘scheduling and logistical issues’ and declined to provide further details. Meanwhile the White House and East Wing did not respond to their request for details on how they would spend their anniversary.
The first couple certainly skipped a celebration last year- as they were coming off an enormous inaugural weekend that saw Melania retreating to New York at the end of the jam packed festivities.
The last time the First Lady shared anything on Twitter was on her husband’s inaugural first year anniversary, she shared an interesting shot of herself with a soldier on January 20.
Her caption made no mention of Donald either: ‘This has been a year filled with many wonderful moments. I’ve enjoyed the people I’ve been lucky enough to meet throughout our great country & the world!’ and written over the photo was simply Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States.
The lack of any sort of celebration, or even a mention of a wedding anniversary, is a departure from previous presidents’ past. George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama frequently marked the occasion in sweet social media messages, and typically would have time allotted for a celebration on the town in their schedules.
The often times cold appearing relationship between the president and Melania isn’t new- however- the sudden cancelling of her trip with him to Switzerland follows weeks of reports of an alleged affair the president had with a porn star whose stage name is Stormy Daniels.
The affair reportedly happened just months after Melania gave birth to Barron in 2006.

In fairness, social media wasn’t quite yet pervasive in George W. Bush’s presidency, but he got the hang of the happy anniversary posts (most recent shown above)
The Trump’s relationship wasn’t always this icy, as ice was previously gifted.
For the not yet First Couple’s 10th anniversary, Trump reportedly gave Melania a 25-carat diamond ring, an upgrade from her previous 12-carat engagement ring.
Just before their 2005 nuptials in Mar-a-Lago, Trump gave an interview to ‘Access Hollywood,’ specifically, to Billy Bush.
Trump said a week before their January wedding, he said he was going to be a loyal husband this time around.
‘I’m gonna show up, I’m gonna say ‘I do,’ and I’m gonna be a very good husband for a change,’ he told Bush, adding that he would ‘come home more.’ Before promising Bush ‘No dating.’
Just before the election in 2016, a leaked audio of Bush and Trump’s now infamous ‘grab em by the p****’ exchange was released by the Washington Post.
That exchange was several months after the president had married Melania.
