Trump blames CNN for worrying first lady that he had a heart attack amid unscheduled doctor’s visit

Donald Trump berated the media on Tuesday for worrying first lady Melania that he had suffered a heart attack when he made an unscheduled visit to Walter Reed Medical Center over the weekend.

‘I went for a physical, and I came back,’ Trump described to reporters during a cabinet meeting Tuesday when describing the doctor’s visit. ‘My wife said, ‘Darling, are you Ok? What’s wrong? Oh, they’re reporting that you may have had a heart attack.”

‘I said, ‘Why did I have a heart attack.”

”Because you went to Walter Reed Medical Center,” he paraphrased he and his wife’s conversation.

Trump’s visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland on Saturday sparked speculation that he had health concerns, and that his visit was spurred by ‘chest discomfort.’

President Trump, 73, bashed the media for its coverage of his unscheduled visit to Walter Reed Medical Center over the weekend, claiming to reporters in a White House cabinet meeting that CNN worried his wife and employees that he had a heart attack

Although Trump, 73, blamed CNN for the rumors, it actually originated from a tweet from an opinion contributor for The Hill.

‘#BreakingNews Sources tell me from Walter Reed the President was being checked out for chest discomfort. No other information is available at this time,’ Andrew Vernon posted to Twitter Saturday night.

Few news outlets reported on the unsubstantiated tweet.

The president shot down these rumors, claiming on Saturday that his visit was just some routine check ups as part of his annual physical. He said the rest of the physical would be completed after the new year, but he wanted to get some of it done while he had a ‘down day’ at the White House.

‘Visited a great family of a young man under major surgery at the amazing Walter Reed Medical Center. Those are truly some of the best doctors anywhere in the world,’ Trump posted to Twitter late Saturday night. ‘Also began phase one of my yearly physical. Everything very good (great!). Will complete next year.’

He reiterated his assertion on Tuesday.

‘I went, did a very routine… physical,’ Trump told reporters at the White House.

‘I was out of there very quickly,’ he continued. ‘I got back home, and I get greeted with the news: We understand you had a heart attack. I was called by our people in public relations: ‘Sir, are you OK?’ I said, ‘OK from what?”

‘The word is you had a heart attack. CNN said you may have had a heart attack, you had massive chest pains, you went to the hospital,” Trump detailed words from his public relations office.

‘These people are sick. They’re sick,’ he asserted. ‘And the press really, in this country, is dangerous. We don’t have freedom of the press in this country, we have the opposite. We have a very corrupt media. And I hope they can get their acts straight right now, because it’s very, very bad and very, very dangerous for our country.’

Late Monday night, Trump’s physician, Navy Commander Sean Conley, released a statement confirming the president and his press secretary’s claims that the check up was just procedural.

‘[T]he President has not had any chest pain, nor was he evaluated or treated for any urgent or acute issues,’ Conley said in the statement. ‘Specifically he did not undergo any specialized cardiac or neurologic evaluations.’

Trump said he wanted to get part of the physical over with because he would likely be facing a busy January – especially with Democrats controlling the House and conducting an impeachment inquiry against him.
