In a Friday evening tweet, Trump says the magazine informed him he was ‘probably’ going to be granted the title for the second year in a row.
He tweets: ‘I said probably is no good and took a pass.’
Trump frequently brags about his cover appearances in the iconic magazine.

Trump was named Person of the Year last year by the magazine following his shock election victory over Hillary Clinton
He has falsely claimed to hold the record of cover appearances, and was revealed earlier this year to have displayed fake issues of Time at several of his private golf clubs.
A spokesperson for Time did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday evening.
The magazine will unveil its Person of the Year on December 6.
Trump’s tweet ignited scorn and mockery on social media.
‘If you actually believe Donald Trump would, in a million years, pass up being named “Person of the Year,” you are currently in a cult. Seek help,’ tweeted CJ Foxtau.
‘If Time Magazine really wants to mess with Donald Trump, it should give “Person of the Year” to [special counsel] Robert Mueller,’ tweeted one Twitter user.
This Twitter user writes that Trump should already be considered the ‘man of the year’ by default because ‘no person alive gets more press coverage.’

‘Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you’re NOT Person of the Year,’ tweeted Richard Stengel. ‘They just wanted a photo shoot. But I’m sure you still have that fake TIME cover somewhere in storage’
Others on Twitter mocked Trump. David Schneider joked that he was ‘PROBABLY’ going to named the next James Bond. ‘I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!’
Tennis champion Andy Murray also joined in the fun. ‘BBC just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!
This Twitter user wondered who else being considered for the honor ‘publicly mentioned they were being considered before the cover hit the stands? Why would this even enter into anyone’s mind?’

Last year, Trump was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine after his shock election victory over Hillary Clinton.
But the internet was quick to criticize the cover image with many suggesting the magazine subtly portrayed Trump as the devil.
Trump’s appearance on last year’s cover of Time had some people thinking it bore similarities to Adolf Hitler’s depiction on the magazine’s cover
Some pointed out that Trump posing in an armchair was strikingly similar to a cover that featured Hitler from 1941
Others drew similarities between Trump’s image and a cover shot of Adolf Hitler.
The various theories made the rounds of Twitter on Wednesday.
Some said the placement of the letter M above Trump’s head made it seem like the President-elect had two red horns.
Some also pointed out that Trump posing in an armchair was strikingly similar to a cover that featured Hitler from 1941.
Hitler was named Time’s 1938 Man of the Year but the cover from that issue showed a black and white illustration drawn by Rudolph Von Ripper that showed Hitler from the back.
The magazine confers the distinction on the person who “for better or for worse… has done the most to influence the events of the year.”
The former real estate tycoon keeps a close eye on the award, and complained on Twitter in 2012, 2014 and 2015 about not being picked.
In June, The Washington Post revealed several of his golf clubs prominently display a framed copy of a fake Time cover featuring several positive headlines and Trump as its cover.
Since announcing his presidential run, Trump has had an antagonistic relationship with much of the US media, accusing critical outlets of peddling ‘Fake News.’
