T’Vondre Sweat avoided serious injury this weekend when his Ford Bronco flipped on its side and rolled over in the car crash that saw him arrested for driving intoxicated at the weekend.
The 22-year-old Sweat, a top NFL Draft prospect, collided with a blue Dodge sports car in Texas – according to new report from TMZ – causing his car to lose control and flip over.
Furthermore, TMZ says a police report claims Sweat’s vehicle had an ‘odor of burnt marijuana’ and that he appeared to have ‘glassy eyes’.
Sweat, the former Texas Longhorn defensive lineman, has been mooted as a potential second round pick in the upcoming draft.
Sweat, the 2023 Big 12 defensive player of the year and Outland Trophy winner, posted $3,000 bond, allowing his pre-draft process to continue.
Ahead of the draft later this month, Sweat flew into Tennessee on Monday to visit with the Titans and will travel up to Seattle later this week, according to Tom Pelissero. Sweat will use the visits as a chance to explain his situation to the franchises.
He was spotted leaving jail later on Sunday afternoon alongside his attorney, according to KXAN News, NBC’s local affiliate.
Sweat kept his face covered with a towel and neither he nor his attorney answered a question about the future of his NFL career.
It is currently unclear when Sweat will be due back in court.
Last season, he registered two sacks, eight tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries, four pass breakups and 45 total tackles, earning him the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior lineman.
ESPN rates Sweat as the No. 3 defensive tackle prospect for the draft, which will take place in Detroit, Michigan from April 25-27.
Sweat, who is the younger brother of Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat, is unlikely to face any discipline from the league as the arrest took place before he joined the NFL.
However, the incident could come as a blow to his draft stock with NFL teams possibly put off by his arrest.
