Twitter explodes with memes after AOC makes ‘Italian hand gesture’

‘I’ll make him a Green New Deal he can’t refuse!’ Twitter explodes with hilarious memes of ‘Italian AOC’ after THAT Godfather-style hand gesture she gave while grilling Mark Zuckerberg

  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grilled Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg during a House Financial Services Committee hearing last Thursday
  • A photo taken during the hearing has now gone viral, with social media users claiming AOC is making an ‘Italian hand gesture’ in the image
  • The hashtag #ItalianAOC has taken off on Twitter, with users sharing the image accompanied by stereotypical Italian quotes and phrases

A photograph of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grilling Mark Zuckerberg during a recent Congressional hearing is going viral on social media, with users claiming the firebrand politician is making an ‘Italian’ hand gesture in the image.

The snap, which shows the 30-year-old raising her hands in the air and rubbing her fingers together, has sparked the hashtag #ItalianAOC.

Twitter users are sharing the photo with accompanying quotations made famous by fictional Italian-American characters.

‘Leave the gun, take the cannoli,’ one popular tweet read, referencing the line uttered by Peter Clemenza in The Godfather.

Another user humorously riffed on Don Vito Corleone’s famous quote from the same film, writing above the image: ‘I’ll make him a Green New Deal he can’t refuse’.

A third meme photoshopped the words ‘The Congresswoman’ over the top of picture using the same front from The Godfather’s movie poster.

Meanwhile, another post referenced The Sopranos, with a quote that read: ‘For the last time, it’s Gabagool, not Capicola!’

Elsewhere on Twitter, other users concocted their own humorous lines which they imagined AOC mouthing in an Italian accent.

‘My ma. She makes manicotti. She makes it al dente with-a ricotta cheese,’ one wrote.

‘When the meat-a-ball-as are just spicy enough,’ another tweet read, making it appear as if AOC was rubbing her fingers in glee.

However, one person interpreted the image as if the Bronx-born politician was in a rather bad mood.

They claimed AOC’s facial expression reminded them of their Italian mom angrily saying ‘After everything I’ve done for you, this is how you repay me?’

AOC is known for being active on Twitter, but the Congresswoman – who has no Italian heritage – has not yet addressed the humorous memes.
