Twitter users are in pun-fueled hysterics after a teenager was pulled over by the police while dressed as Shrek.
Haylee Mazmanian, 18, a senior at Santiago High School in Corona, California, was on his way home from a make-up class on Monday evening when she decided to give two classmates a ride to a nearby Chick-fil-A.
While the group were driving in Haylee’s car on the way to the restaurant, she was shocked when a pair of flashing police lights appeared behind her.
Quite a look: Haylee Mazmanian, 18, of Corona, California, was pulled over while made up like the character Shrek
By surprise: Haylee revealed that she was driving from a make-up class when the incident occurred
On any other day… The teenager had been with her friends at the class playing around with different make-up
Haylee was less concerned about the legal implications of being pulled over than she was about her appearance in that moment – as she was made up to look like the green cartoon ogre Shrek.
The teenager told BuzzFeed that in the moment she thought: ‘I don’t even know what to say to him to make him realize that I’m not like – crazy.’
As she expected, the officer was ‘startled’ by her appearance when he arrived at the window. He asked if she was under the influence and took her word for it when she said she was not.
After 20 minutes of conferring with his partner, the officer let Haylee drive off with a ticket for making an improper left turn.
Getting the laughs: Twitter users absolutely loved the story, with many responses along the same lines
Har har: Users responding to the tweet proved to be big fans of puns
A good move: The tweet was eventually shared more than 60,000 times
When she arrived at the Chick-fil-A, Haylee snapped a selfie of her bright green face and posted it to Twitter, writing: ‘OK so I got pulled over on my way home from make-up class…’
The tweet swiftly went viral, having currently been shared more than 60,000 times.
Users couldn’t get enough of the story and, soon enough, puns were flying in – many of which were along the same lines.
One joked that Haylee must have been ‘going ogre the speed limit’ while another asked, ‘did you get a ticket for shrekless driving?’
Potent quotables: Shrek fans came out in droves to offer up famous phrases from the film
Having a laugh: Luckily, the officer and his department also found the incident funny, later joking to BuzzFeed that he wasn’t engaging in ‘ogre-profiling’
‘If the officer didn’t say, “do you know why I pulled you ogre?” he’s not living life to the fullest,’ joked one young man.
As it turns out, the officer and his department were equally tickled by the incident, with the Corona Police Department telling BuzzFeed that Officer Hartman was not engaging in ‘ogre-profiling’ on the evening.
‘Not being one to judge, Officer Hartman did not draw attention to Ms. Mazmanian’s complexion or unique ears during his interaction with her, which is what we would expect of our officers,’ the statement added.
