Twitter is testing a ‘tweetstorms’ feature

Making your point on Twitter often requires more than 140 characters, and having to post a ‘tweetstorm’ of back-to-back tweets can be painstaking.

But there’s good news for those hoping to vent on Twitter, as the social media site is testing a new tweetstorm feature.

The feature is currently hidden, and it is unclear when, or if, Twitter plans to make it publicly available.

WHAT IS A TWEETSTORM?

A ‘tweetstorm’ is a series of related tweets posted by a Twitter user in quick succession.

Until now, users have had to write each tweet individually, replying to the last.

But the new tweetstorm feature could help users to write all the tweets at once, and post them together.

A Twitter user under the pseudonym, Devesh Logendran, spotted the ‘tweetstorm’ feature hidden inside the current Android Twitter app.

He sent screenshots of the feature in action to Matt Navarra, TNW’s Director of social media.

The feature allows users to write out a tweetstorm and see them broken into distinct tweets, and then tweet the whole ‘thread’ at once.

This could save users the time and energy of having to write each tweet individually and reply to the last.

MailOnline has contacted Twitter for comment.

The news comes just two months after Twitter confirmed it was testing a paid model targeted at businesses and advertisers that would cost $99 (£75) a month.

The subscription would essentially be for an ad program that would automatically promote posts, up to 10 per day in addition to running month-long Promoted Account ads.

TWITTER ADS BETA

Twitter is testing an invite-only ad program.

It’s targeted at advertisers who already promote and costs $99 (£75) a month.

Tweets – up to 10 a day – are automatically promoted, and users don’t get to choose which ones.

Only two types of targeting are being offered during the test: interest category and US metro area

Businesses can only choose one and also forfeit their ability to use the existing ad program

Currently, the test – called Twitter Ads Beta Program – is invite-only.

Twitter already allows users to pay to promote posts, charging $0.50 (£0.38) to $2.00 (£1.50) per engagement depending on your target.

You can also already pay to promote accounts for $2.50 (£1.90) to $4.00 (£3.00) per new follower as well as pay to promote a ‘trend’ for a whopping $200,000 (£151,000) per day.

With these methods – minus the trends-, you pay per engagement and manually select what to promote, how and when.

Under the $99 (£75) plan, the tweets are automatically promoted and users wouldn’t get a say in which tweets are selected for promotion.
