Britain is locked in a Twitter battle over the nation’s favourite ice lolly as the country boils on what could be the hottest day on record.

With temperatures already hitting 95F (35C) by midday, Britons young and old are in desperate need of a frozen treat to cool down.

Last year an official poll ranked Magnums top, with fans complaining they are ice creams – not lollies.

But as the mercury soars today, Twitter has gone into meltdown as a fresh debate on the best ice lolly unfolds.

One ice lolly aficionado ranked the Jubbly and Ribena ice lollies top, with chocolate Feasts and Cornettos just behind.

But Twitter users were outraged at the idea of the humble Mini Milk being ranked higher than the Fab, which came bottom of the new list.

Niki Albon rated his favourite ice lollies, from ‘God tier’ to ‘awful tier’, but Twitter was unimpressed

Also rated poorly are the Nobbly Bobbly, rocket lolly and Twister.

YouTuber and Radio 1 presenter Niki Albon sectioned the lollies into god, top, mid and awful tiers.

But the list was highly controversial on Twitter, with one person posting: ‘A Mini Milk better than a Fab? Do you have tastebuds?’

Another wrote: ‘This may be the most controversial tweet of all time.’

Someone else tweeted: ‘Absolutely wrong. Zapp, Fab and Twister belong in the god tier.’

Furious, one Twitter user commented: ‘This is so wrong I don’t even know where to begin.’

Someone else posted: ‘The injustice! Fabs and Twisters should be higher. Outrageous.’

A YouGov poll released in July 2018 revealed Magnum is the UK’s official favourite ice lolly.

Second was the Fab, followed by Solero, Twister, Feast and Calippo.

The Fruit Pastille lolly came a measly ninth, while the Mini Milk trailed in fifteenth place.
