The nation was left shaken on Thursday after it was revealed Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized from a fall at the office that left her with three fractured ribs.
The 85-year-old woman, nicknamed RBG, was admitted ‘for observation and treatment’ early on Thursday morning after her Wednesday fall because she experienced discomfort overnight.
Ginsburg is the oldest Supreme Court justice and one of four liberal-leaning judges on the high court. So the news rocked the Democrats as many online offered to give her anything — including their ribs, internal organs and bubble wrap — to keep the prominent woman healthy until the next Democratic presidency.
Heartbreaking: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, was hospitalized on Thursday after experiencing a fall in her office on Wednesday evening
Panicked: The news rocked liberals in the United States, including actress Alyssa Milano, who need Ginsburg to stay healthy until 2020
Priorities: People online made insane offers to donate their own ribs to the liberal-leaning justice to keep her healthy
True: The news shocked the nation after a tumultuous news cycle yesterday involving President Donald Trump firing Jeff Sessions as his attorney general
Fair: One person asked how no one has thought to wrap Ginsburg in bubble wrap to keep her safe until the next presidential election
Twitter was flooded with people digesting the news of Ginsburg being admitted to George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. with three rib fractures.
Although many recognized they couldn’t actually donate a rib to the fallen justice, it didn’t stop them from still making the offer.
Actress Alyssa Milano, 45, was one of the ones reacting to the news online, writing: ‘Ruth Bader Ginsberg [sic] can have my ribs. And my kidneys and a lung, And anything else she needs. She can even have my husband on Thursdays.’
Another supporter was in agreement with Alyssa and wrote: ‘I will literally give three ribs to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg if she needs them, along with whichever other body parts she requires until 2020.’
In an attempt to make light of the situation, supporters joked the Democrats needed to wrap the justice in bubble wrap in an attempt to keep her healthy for the next two years.
‘How have liberal activists not physically bubble wrapped RBG yet?’ Journalist Sam Stein wrote on Twitter after the news broke on Thursday morning.
Monumental: Ginsburg, who was the second Supreme Court justice and is pictured with Sandra Day O’Connor, has gained celebrity status recently after her biography released
History: Ginsburg, pictured shaking hands with US President Bill Clinton, said in July that she believed she had at least another five years in her on the Supreme Court
Concerned: Many people said the justice’s health should take priority for the next two years
Willing: One person shared that he would buy the justice an inflatable hamster ball to keep her body safe
On the way: There were a number of gifs and memes to express how people would donate anything to keep Ginsburg healthy
Make it happen: One person joked Ginsburg should be kept in bubble wrap until she decides to retire from the high court
Ginsburg previously broke two ribs in a fall in 2012. She also survived two bouts with cancer and had a stent implanted to open a blocked artery in 2014.
Despite all these health setbacks, Ginsburg has come back stronger than ever and even recently spoke about how long she intends to remain in her seat.
‘I’m now 85,’ Ginsburg said in July, according to CNN. ‘My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, he stepped down when he was 90, so I think I have about at least five more years.’
But these health scares have worried Democrats who don’t want Ginsburg to step down and allow President Trump to appoint his third Supreme Court justice.
‘Holy f*** can we just wrap Ruth Bader Ginsburg in bubble wrap and cary her around in a sedan chair for the next two or more years because she is currently our country’s most precious natural resource,’ one person wrote after news broke.
Another person wrote: ‘GoFundMe for a 20-foot thick bubble wrap inside which Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be placed for at least two years.’
Ginsburg, who was the second woman ever nominated to the Supreme Court, has become an icon for women’s right movements and advocates.
She recently gained celebrity status after her biography, The Notorious RGB, released and was made into a documentary.
A movie entitled On The Basis Of Sex will explore more of Ginsburg’s background in law before her Supreme Court appointment, and the justice will be played by Felicity Jones.
