Twitter users criticise ‘disgraceful’ Cologne fans

Twitter users have condemned ‘disgraceful’ Cologne fans who rampaged through London after being turned away from the Emirates without tickets.

ITV newsreader Robert Peston led the chorus of disapproval, describing how some Cologne fans were pulling Nazi salutes and urinating on doorsteps.

The arch-remainer wrote: ‘These Cologne fans are a disgrace. Nazi salutes. Peeing in doorsteps. My European solidarity being tested.’

Fans described scenes of ‘absolute madness’ outside Arsenal’s stadium as riot police were forced to storm inside the ground to maintain order.

Others criticised the club’s crowd management, questioning why so many German fans were allowed near the stadium without tickets.

‘Craig’ tweeted: ‘Wow. What is going on at the Emirates. Cologne fans are a disgrace.’

Jess Pearce said: ‘People forcing their way through the entrances has to be called off we do not want a repeat of past disasters #emirates #shambles.’

And Matt Asay wrote: ’20K Cologne fans have infiltrated the and were allocated fewer than 2K seats. They’re everywhere here, chanting. This may get ugly.’

Around 20,000 FC Cologne supporters travelled to London for their club’s Europa League clash tonight, but only 3,000 had tickets.

Mounted police tried to keep unruly crowds at bay, but video footage showed fans kicking down metal barriers and fighting with officers.

Witnesses have also spoken of violence erupting inside the Emirates, with Cologne fans fighting with stewards and police dog units as they were forced outside.

Sean Davies tweeted: ‘Koln fans trashing the, fighting police and stewards. Imagine if this was English fans in Europe – UEFA would come down so hard.’

The authorities have delayed kick off by an hour in the ‘interest of crowd safety’, with no supporters allowed inside the 60,000 seater ground.

Many Twitter users were critical of the security set-up at the game, with 'Tony' tweeting: 'There were 20k of them in London all day Anyone without a ticket should not have been allowed within a mile of the Emirates'
