Two 17-year-old boys killed and children injured in Thirsk car crash

Two teenage boys have been killed and seven others, including two children, have been taken to hospital after a three-car pile-up on the A61 in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened at around 9.25pm last night and involved a Ford Focus, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Volkswagen Bora that were travelling eastbound on the road between Busby Stoop and Carlton Miniott near Thirsk.

The boys, who died at the scene, were believed by police to both be 17 years old. Officers this morning appealed for anyone with dashcam footage that may have captured the moments before the accident to come forward.

The road was likely to remain closed for some time, police added. 

In a statement, North Yorkshire Police said:  ‘Two boys, believed to be 17 years old, sadly died at the scene. A further five [adults] and two children have been taken to hospital.

‘Police enquiries are ongoing into the incident and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation.

‘In particular, anyone who witnessed the collision or who was travelling in the area at the time with dashboard cameras in operation prior to the collision is urged to contact them.’
