Two hospitalised after brawl outside Melbourne store

A man is fighting for his life and a woman has been seriously wounded during a fight between two groups in the centre of Melbourne’s city centre.

Police say the pair, both in their 30s, were assaulted with an edged weapon outside a convenience store at the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth St near Flinders St train station about 4.30am on Monday.

A crime scene has been established and four people are currently helping police with inquiries.

A spokeswoman for Victoria Ambulance told Daily Mail Australia the woman had ‘serious injuries to her upper body’, but was in a stable condition and had been transported to the Royal Alfred Hospital. 

The man also had serious injuries to his upper body and had been transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

CCTV footage from the Subway next door shows the man, seen wearing a pink shirt over a white t-shirt and a white visor, walking in to ask for help. 

He is seen clutching at his wounds as blood is seen staining his white t-shirt.

Evidence collected by officers at the crime scene included a handbag containing a passport and a mobile phone.  

A witness has told the Today Show she saw the woman was badly injured.

‘I think it was a serious fight and two people were just lying down and the other people were just hitting them,’ she said.

‘I could see one person, a lady, she just pulled up her shirt and she just got her stomach and she was bleeding.’
