Transport may have been scarce for people living in Brisbane in the 1930s, but it was a different story for koalas, according to remarkable video taken at the time.

Breathtaking archive footage from Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Fig Tree Pocket, south west of the city, shows two of the cuddly animals riding on the back of a dog.

A large German Shepherd runs around a field in the short clip shared to ABC Brisbane’s Twitter, completely unconcerned by its freeloading passengers.

The ‘throwback’ photo was uploaded to the platform on Thursday, earning itself a prestigious title of the ‘best vision’ in the company’s archives.

‘Nothing to see here, folks – just two koalas riding on the back of a dog out at Lone Pine Sanctuary in the late 1930s,’ the post read.

‘We just came across this awesome bit of footage in the ABC archives. It may just be the best bit of vision in there!.’

In the video, there is plenty of room for the two iconic creatures, with one clutching it’s claws around the dog’s neck, and the other positioned further down its back.

The weight of the koalas is no challenge for the hefty sized pooch, who ferries them around an overgrown enclosure with ease.

At one point, the working dog pauses for a brief sit-down, comically allowing the rear koala to perch its bottom on the ground.
