Two friends have been identified as the victims of a horrific crash which has left one of their brothers in an induced coma.

Joey Tofan, 23, and Khalil Hamoud, 22, were killed when the BMW they were passengers in collided with a five tonne truck in wet conditions on King Georges Road at Wiley Park, in Sydney’s south-west on Monday night.

Khalil’s brother Yousef Hamoud, 20, who was behind the wheel of the BMW, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

He suffered significant injuries and needed a blood transfusion at the crash scene.

The truck driver, 24, was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

It was one of two fatal crashes within 24 hours on King Georges Road – one of Sydney’s busiest thoroughfares.

The force of the crash was so extreme that the two vehicles appeared melded together.

Shocked residents near the crash site described the impact as ‘unbelievable’.

‘It’s very scary, very sad,’ Bimala Uyawali told Seven News.

The tragedy sparked an outpouring of tributes for Khalil and Mr Tofan.

‘Yesterday, our hearts were shattered by a tragedy we can barely find the words for,’ one post read.

‘Three beautiful boys, full of dreams and laughter, were caught in a moment that changed everything forever.

‘Today, their families wake up to a reality no parent, no sibling, no friend should ever face.

‘Please, keep them in your prayers. Pray for the souls of Khalil and Joey that they are embraced with mercy, love, and light. Pray for Yousef, that he finds the strength to heal and return to the arms of those who love him.’

King Georges Road was closed in both directions for six hours on Monday night as crash investigators established a crime scene and cleared debris from the road.

Police will investigate whether speed and the wet weather were contributing factors.

All lanes of King Georges Road were reopened by 6am Tuesday in time for the peak morning commute.

Just 12 hours later, a woman was fatally struck by a car on the same road 9km away in Blakehurst on Tuesday night.

The woman, who’s yet to be formally identified died at the scene.

The male driver, 28, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Anyone with information on either crash has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
