Two people have been arrested after violent protests erupted in Sydney ahead of Milo Yiannopoulos’ event.

Hundreds of protesters and police officers lined the streets outside Le Montage at Lilyfield, Sydney’s inner-west, where the right-wing firebrand was due to speak on Tuesday night.

Riot Squad officers with shields and police on horseback were tasked to the area in preparation for potentially dangerous demonstrations.

Protest groups of about 50 people were seen outside the venue on Tuesday about 7pm, where they were heard chanting ‘racist, sexist, anti-queer, Milo is not welcome here’.

More to come.
