Two people critical after Uluru Helicopter crash

A pilot and passenger are in critical condition after a helicopter crashed on a sunset tour of Uluru.

The helicopter, carrying the pilot and three passengers, went down at 6.30pm, at a remote site near Yulara, close to Uluru in the Northern Territory.

‘The helicopter came down hard in scrubland shortly after taking off about 6pm,’ Duty Superintendent Rob Farmer told ABC News.

The pilot has been transferred to Royal Adelaide Hospital with spinal injuries.

One passenger on board suffered fractures and chest injuries and is being treated at Alice Springs Hospital.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service said they plan to airlift another to Adelaide for specialist treatment.

The third passenger has no major injuries.

The flight company involved in the crash has been confirmed as Professional Helicopter Services, ABC News reported.

The company is expect6ed to release a statement on Thursday.

The Royal Flying Doctor tweeted late on Wednesday night that two of the four patients were reported as critical.

Medical and police officers were hampered getting to the scene given the remote location.

‘It has been a bit tricky for emergency services staff to get to,’ Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said. 

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified of the crash.
