Two people fighting for their lives after bus crash in Oakley, Hampshire

Up to 20 people were on board the service when it plunged off the Andover Road in Oakley, near Basingstoke this lunchtime.

Two people suffered life-threatening injuries, three others were seriously hurt and six suffered minor injuries.

Witnesses said those of the upper deck of the bus had scrambled out through a broken window after the  bus ended up in trees next to the B3400.

Witness Danielle Wyatt, 25, and her partner Craig were in one of the first cars on the scene after the bus left the road.

She said: ‘Everyone on the top deck had got out through the window. The force of the crash had broken the window and there was a 16-year-old girl who had been thrown through it.

‘The driver had gone out through the front window and he was lying on the floor about 10ft away – I don’t think he was in a good way at all.’

Ms Wyatt said a woman with a toddler and an elderly man with a bloody face were also among the injured.

She added: ‘People after people were coming off the bus one after the other.

‘My main concern was to get the kids and the elderly people out of the way of the bus. I was making sure it was safe and checking to see if there was smoke or a fire coming from the bus.’

Police have said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
