Two people have been rushed to hospital with horrific burns after a barbecue gas bottle explosion.

Emergency services were called to a picnic area in Somersby on the NSW Central Coast just after 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon. 

A NSW Ambulance spokesman told Daily Mail Australia said two crews attended the scene.

A woman, 56, suffered burns to her face, ears and hands while a man 67, suffered burns to his legs, face and hands.

‘Both patients are conscious and breathing,’ the spokesman said. 

Both patients were taken to Gosford Hospital in a serious but stable condition. 

No one else required medical attention.

The latest incident comes after a Queensland teenager was forced to drive into the ocean to save his life after a gas bottle exploded in his car on the Sunshine Coast on Friday night.
