Two teenage boys charged with murder of 13-year-old Jahziah Coke stabbed to death in Oldbury

Two teenage boys have been charged with the murder of 13-year-old stabbing victim Jahziah Coke.

The youngster was found with fatal injuries after police were called to a home on Lovett Avenue in Oldbury, five miles west of Birmingham city centre in the West Midlands, at around 4pm on August 29.

In a tribute issued via West Midlands Police, the 13-year-old’s mother said: ‘Jahziah was a very polite, kind and family-orientated young man.

‘He was very loving and always smiling. His smile would light up the room. He was very kind-hearted.’

Paramedics attempted to treat his injuries at the scene but, despite their efforts, he could not be saved.

Police were called to the scene at around 4pm on Thursday. Two teenage boys were arrested and later charged with murder

Police arrested two teenagers, whose ages have not been released, on suspicion of murder on Sunday. The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have now been charged.

A man in his forties who was also taken into police custody has been charged with assisting an offender.

All three are expected to appear before Birmingham magistrates later today.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Jahziah’s death. 

Tributes were left outside the house in the wake of the attack, while friends of the teen also organised a balloon release in his memory.

Pals released blue balloons and set off blue and red flares outside the house, which was still contained within a police cordon, on Sunday night.

An image shared on social media showed friends had also spelt out ‘RIP ZI’ in tealights on the front lawn.

The family is being supported by specialist officers – and officers are continuing to appeal for information in relation to the tragedy.

Detectives have carried out CCTV enquiries in the area but still want to hear from anyone who may have dashcam, doorbell, CCTV or phone footage that could assist with their investigation.
