Two teenagers from Suffolk died in Boxing Day crash on A14

  • Two teenagers have died following a Boxing Day car crash on the A14 
  • William Smedley, 18, from Bury St Edmunds, died at the scene
  • Jake Paxton, 18, also from Bury St Edmunds, died in hospital from injuries 
  • Mr Smedley’s family said he was a ‘caring son, loving grandson, doting brother’

Two teenagers who died following a Boxing Day car crash on the A14 in Suffolk have been named.

William Smedley, 18, from Bury St Edmunds, died at the scene, police said. 

Mr Smedley’s family said he was a ‘caring son, loving grandson, doting big brother, a loyal, kind, generous beautiful young man, gone but never ever forgotten.’

William Smedley, 18, who died along with another teenager when their grey Ford Fiesta collided with a black Vauxhall Corsa on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 at Rougham, near Bury St Edmunds on Boxing Day

 A second teenager has since died in hospital.  

Jake Paxton, 18, also from Bury St Edmunds, died from injuries suffered in the collision between two cars on the A14 at nearby Rougham.

He was a passenger in a grey Ford Fiesta which collided with a black Vauxhall Corsa on the eastbound carriageway at 9.30pm on December 26 and was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge afterwards.  

The male driver of the Fiesta was also taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

The Corsa’s 19-year-old female driver was uninjured.
