Two women hit with chairs from 10th story at Dragon Con

Two women are recovering from injuries after being hit with chairs thrown from a 10th story balcony at Dragon Con in Atlanta.

Police said around 1.30am on Sunday chairs and bottles were thrown from the Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Atlanta.

A chair hit Kelly McDaniel, 21, in the head and she was rushed to the hospital.

McDaniel said she heard loud pops and felt something warm and wet running down her face.

‘It was just so much blood,’ she told Channel 2 Action News.

Dragon Con is a pop culture convention that has been held in downtown Atlanta for 31 years.

‘It really did sound like gunshots. We were scared and a lot of people (were) there so it’s a mass panic,’ McDaniel told Fox5 News.

‘I feel this sharp pain and I thought maybe someone hit me with a water bottle. (I) saw chairs everywhere and someone dragged me inside. It was complete chaos.’

McDaniel was dressed as Loki, a character from The Avengers movie series. She said she believes the helmet she was wearing helped lessen the blow from the chair.

‘I really think that saved my life,’ she said.

McDaniel currently has two staples in her head holding the wound together.

A second woman was also taken to the hospital after a chair struck her in the arm.

Both women have since been released.

Dragon Con has said: ‘We are grateful that the injuries were not more severe. And we are proud of the Dragon Con attendees who stepped up quickly, realized the severity of the situation and provided immediate assistance.’

The Atlanta Police Department is currently investigating.

McDaniel has posted on her Facebook Sunday morning asking for anyone with information to come forwards. She said: ‘If anyone has any information about the inconsiderate jerks(s) that threw 3 chairs from the Marriott balcony and split my head open, please send it Cristóbal Esteban Poth (McDaniel’s boyfriend) or me.’

‘I was just discharged and we are headed home to recover from a horrifying experience. I have lost all faith in humanity, but I’m counting my blessings that I wasn’t hurt any worse. I could’ve died because of some drunk idiot.’
