Stunned families and children look on in horror as two young women who ‘overdosed on ketamine’ by a Gold Coast resort pool are brought back to life

  • Two women had to be revived by paramedics who found them unconscious
  • Witnesses said women, aged in 20s and 30s, took tranquiliser ketamine
  • Paramedics revived one and injected another, which made her wake up
  • She then screamed and convulsed, forcing them to hold her down

Horrified families and young children watched in horror as three people overdosed on drugs by a resort swimming pool.

Two young women had to be revived by paramedics called to the resort on the Gold Coast at 4.58pm on Thursday after they fell unconscious.

Witnesses at the hotel on Chevron Island told police they believed the trio had taken powerful tranquiliser ketamine, but this is not confirmed.

Shocking video showed ambulance officers frantically reviving one of them while the other was given and injection to wake her up.

The woman then screamed and convulsed as paramedics struggled to hold her down as she thrashed around on the poolside tiles.

Small children were playing in the pool while families relaxed nearby as the confronting drama unfolded.

A witness said one woman was initially struggling to get out of the deep end of the pool while a man who also overdosed looked on without helping.

‘The bloke was just sitting there looking at her struggling. He could have reached over and grabbed her hand if he wanted to and he wouldn’t,’ the told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

‘The paramedics were yelling at them trying to figure out what they took, but they both couldn’t talk. There was stuff all around the pool, blood, it was a lot.’

Gold Coast senior operations supervisor Neil Stead said it appeared the trio overdosed on a painkiller that a witness said was ketemine.

‘The drug they were supposed to have used, and it hasn’t been proven, is the same kind of drug you would give a patient who would have had a massive trauma and you’re trying to reduce the pain,’ he said.

‘If you’re a normal healthy person with no pain or injuries it’s going to reduce your level of consciousness.

‘If you happen to be in a swimming pool, the chances of drowning are exponential as you will get drowsy, you will go under water, you will take water in, drown and potentially die.’

The Queensland Ambulance Service said all three people were rushed to hospital after being found unconscious following overdoses.

A man in his 50s was taken to Robina Hospital and two women in their 20s and 30s, to Gold Coast University Hospital, all three in a serious but stable condition.
