Tyron Woodley warns Jake Paul his aggressive style would play right into his hands next month

‘When people press me, they get knocked the f*** out’: Tyron Woodley warns Jake Paul his aggressive style would play right into his hands when they clash… and insists YouTuber ‘can’t make up for 30 years as an athlete’

  • Tyron Woodley and Jake Paul are set to meet on August 28 in a professional bout
  • The former UFC champion will make his professional boxing debut next month
  • Paul has adopted an aggressive style during his three boxing bouts to date
  • But Woodley believes should he repeat that approach he will get knocked out

Tyron Woodley insists Jake Paul will be playing into his hands if he adopts an aggressive approach during their hotly-anticipated bout next month.

The duo are set to clash on August 28, with Woodley due to make his professional boxing debut when he meets unbeaten YouTuber Paul.

Paul, 24, has employed a walk-forward style during some of his fledgling boxing career against the likes of fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson and most recently Ben Askren.

But Woodley believes such an approach this time around from Paul will result in a knockout victory for the former UFC champion, but expects his team to have coached him properly on how to defeat him.

‘When people press me, they get knocked the f*** out, every single time,’ he told Fight Hub TV.

‘Who’s pressed me and not got knocked out? When I sat back and I let people in on the fight and I let people be like, ”Ah, I’m waiting on Tyron to do what he normally does” and when I didn’t do it, it gave them the confidence and courage to walk down. Then they’ve got a chance.

‘I think he’s got enough intelligence – he’s stupid as hell but he’s smart as f*** on the low – he’s gonna be coached by people that tell him, ”Okay, this is what he did, the people that did good against him, they did this.”

‘Who would not look back? He’s got way more footage of me than I do of him.

‘He’s gonna watch so much film, so many people are gonna watch it, they’re gonna break it down, people I’ve trained with, sparring partners, coaches probably, he’s gonna do whatever it takes to get any intel because he has to. He can’t make up for 30 years as an athlete.’

Woodley – who has recently been seen training with Floyd Mayweather in the build up to the fight – dominated the UFC welterweight division between 2016 and 2018, but is now without a win in three years.

He was therefore let go by UFC in the aftermath of four successive defeats at the hands of Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns and Vicente Luque respectively.

But Woodley has already claimed he will knockout Paul when they meet, believing his camp have been ‘gassing him up too much’.

‘At the end of the day, he’s gonna get beat up. He’s gonna get knocked out,’ Woodley told the Michael Bisping Podcast last month.

‘Hopefully, it’s not too bad because what’s happening is, his people are gassing him up that he can win.

‘They’re gassing him up, and they’re giving him that, “You’ve got the power, he’s old, he ain’t won a fight a million years, you the younger, more hungry, he’s taking you lightly, you can beat him.”

‘They’re lying to this kid, and they’re gonna get him f***** up.

‘So, what’s gonna happen is, I’m gonna beat him, I’m gonna knock him out, and hopefully it’s not too bad where he doesn’t want to do it again.’
