The venue in Arabia was a quadrant of a theme park devoted to Egypt in all the pyramids and sphinxes of its ancient glory.

Both Tyson Fury and world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk were covered up to the eyeballs for the public workouts which are part of the ritual run up to the title fight on Saturday night.

Fury thought about putting on the gloves for a little pad work for the benefit of the media scrum.

He zipped on a thick leather jacket instead, waved his arms a bit and restricted his response to questions about the coming fight to saying: ‘Pain. Damage. Serious hurt,’ before heading for a warm room.

Usyk entered to the opening strains of the Titanic theme – who’s going under? – followed by rousing, powerful martial choruses from his homeland.
