- Tyson Fury ended Wladimir Klitschko reign as world champion in 2015
- He has not fought in almost eight years since losing to Anthony Joshua
- Fury has broken his silence on the prospect of facing his old foe again
Tyson Fury has responded to the prospect of old foe Wladimir Klitschko returning to boxing aged 48.
The Ukranian hung up his gloves after his enthralling fight with Anthony Joshua in 2017 when he was knocked out in the 11th round.
However, his promoter has suggested he could return to the ring and become the oldest heavyweight champion – a record currently held by George Foreman who beat Michael Moorer in 1994 at the age of 45.
Fury was the man who ended Klitschko’s nine-year reign as heavyweight champion when he outpointed him in 2015.
And the Brit, who faces Oleksandr Usyk for the second time on Saturday, has given his damning verdict on his old foe’s chances of making history.
‘I don’t really buy into all that about beating the George Foreman record,’ said Fury.
‘If you are coming back you are coming back for the dough only, he’s not coming back for the ‘being older than George Foreman’ s***e.
‘If he was then he would just go after the WBA regular title and fight a (Manuel) Charr, or whoever, but that doesn’t generate any money so he isn’t looking for that, he’s looking for the big dollars.

Tyson Fury insists Klitschko is more interested in cash than breaking George Foreman’s record
Klitschko’s last bout was against Anthony Joshua in 2017 when he was knocked out by the Brit
‘He must have spent a few quid because he is 48 years old and he has been away from boxing a long time but I don’t tell anybody what they can or cannot do, it’s their own life and none of my concern.’
Mail Sport revealed last month that Klitschko’s bid come out of retirement to challenge Daniel Dubois for his world heavyweight title had been rebuffed.
And last week, Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 promotions which also guides the career of fellow Ukranian Usyk, raised the possibility of a rematch with Fury.
‘He wouldn’t fight Usyk because that’s his countryman, but now with the likes of Daniel Dubois, and depending what happens, we may see him come out of retirement. But we’ll let him make any announcement. A lot depends on what happens December 21 (Fury-Usyk II).
“There was a rematch clause there with Tyson Fury but after winning that fight Tyson went off the rails, so Wladimir never got the rematch he was supposed to get contractually. So, you never know, if that happens down the road it would be a tremendous fight.’.
