An Uber driver has suffered horrific injuries after being dragged down a ritzy Melbourne street following a carjacking – but the ride-sharing company is refusing to help cover his medical costs.
Sayed Atman Shah, 31, was attacked while driving early on Sunday morning in Brighton. south-east of Melbourne, Seven News reported.
He was jumped by two men wearing masks and wielding a knife.

‘One of the person punch me here [in the face], but it was a very hard punch.
‘I was thinking that I am killed, I will be killed,’ he said.
As he hung onto the car the thieves did a U-turn before Mr Shah let go.
A resident found Mr Shah in a pool of blood outside his front door.
‘There was a fair amount of blood about and he wasn’t in good shape,’ the unidentified man told Seven News.

‘He was really shaken, definitely in shock.’
Mr Shah said Uber told him he was not eligible for compensation as he is a contractor.
In a statement, Uber said they were sorry for Mr Shah’s experience but they would not help with his medical bills or losing his car.

Mr Shah said he was disappointed with the company’s response.
‘They should stand behind me. The Uber should stand behind me, I’m working for them.’
Police are searching for Mr Shah’s blue Toyota Camry, which has Victorian registration plates reading IHK8LK, and are still hunting for the two men responsible for the attack.
