Uber launches a VERY handy new app feature for Aussies on the go – helping you save time and money on each trip

  • Sydney users will be the first to try Uber’s new fully-integrated feature
  • ‘Uber and Transit’ details real-time public transport information
  • The feature allows users to catch public transport for a portion of the route
  • While this will take longer, it will allow customers to save money on trips

Uber is set to launch their latest fully-integrated feature in Sydney later this month.

The new ‘Uber and Transit’ feature allows users to view and add real-time public transit information into their desired route.

While this will take longer to arrive at the location, it will allow customers to save money on each trip.

This will include information and times for trains, buses, ferries and the light rail, and customers can choose the option on the app’s listed products.

This will be particularly helpful to reach certain locations faster and limit the amount of public transport used.

For instance, if travelling to Bondi Beach users may wish to catch the train to Bondi Junction and complete their trip with an Uber ride.

In a statement, Manuela Nicolae, Head of Rider Operations, Uber Australia and New Zealand said: ‘Public transport and the Uber app can be a powerful combination. And it’s a credit to the NSW Government’s long term commitment to open data and technology that Sydney is the launch-pad for this new technology.’

New South Wales Transport and Roads Minister Andrew Constance added: ‘I am so excited by this development, which means Sydneysiders will be among the first in the world to experience this Uber feature.

‘What’s so great about this technology is it allows commuters to look at their best option of getting from A to B.’

‘This collaboration is so great, because it will help people make better decisions about getting around our city and as a result help to reduce congestion, which is a win for our transport commuters and a win for our drivers.’

In order to maintain social distancing, it’s recommended users wear a mask on public transport and sit in the back seat of the Uber.
