UK mum reveals she’s trolled over her son’s ‘bonkers’ name Boye

Mum reveals she’s shamed over son’s ‘bonkers’ name with some asking her if she did it for a dare: ‘I’m trolled by pensioners’

  • Told she is ‘bonkers’ and ‘did it for a dare’

A mum has revealed how she is regularly shamed for giving her son an unusual name, but says ‘she loves it’ despite being regularly told it’s ‘bonkers’.

Chesney Leigh Wright, 26,  named her son Boye and says she’s often told to ‘repeat it’ by strangers who don’t believe what they hear.

She said in particular older generations ‘lose the plot’ over the three-year-old’s unusual moniker, but she believes it suits him ‘perfectly’.

The mum says she picked the name -pronounced ‘boy –  because  ‘he is a boy’ and that she managed to register it without any complaints.

‘We wanted an unusual and memorable name but couldn’t find one we liked,’ she told the Sun.

Chesney, from the UK, said she’s regularly called ‘bonkers’ and ‘crazy’ and that pensioners often tell her to give him a ‘real name’.

She said Boye’s father’s parents were ‘expecting a girl’ and when he was born they called him ‘Boy’ for a few weeks.

So when she was pregnant,  her now ex-partner joked that they should call their son ‘Boy’. She warmed up to the name and decided to add an ‘e’ on the end to make it less confusing.

‘The nurses at the hospital were shocked, declaring they’d delivered lots of boy’s but never had one named Boye,’ Chesney added.

The mum went on that most people wither ‘love it or hate it’ with her own mum left horrified by the moniker.

She added that she ‘begged her to reconsider’ but has come round to it and even joked if the next child would be called girl.

Others have asked if she named her son ‘for a dare’.

Despite some shocked looks, Chesney thinks the name suit her son perfectly.

Her first child, a daughter, is called Eriella Leigh. The name is a cross between  Ariel and Elijah, which are two names she ‘loved’.
