- Jockey predicted win before race
- Rode the UK champion to perfection
- Double protest lodged
William Haggas-trained Lake Forest has won a thrilling Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens with Cieren Fallon in the saddle.
The UK-raider launched along the fence to defeat French horse Lazzat in a thrilling finish to the $10million race.
However Connections of fifth placegetter Stefi Magnetica have protested against runner-up Lazzat while connections of Lazzat have also protested against Lake Forest.
But both protests were ultimately dismissed, allowing connections of Lake Forest to finally celebrate.
Lake Forest stormed home along the fence to claim victory in the Golden Eagle but two protests were lodged straight afterwards
Jockey Cieren Fallon predicted the Golden Eagle victory before the race had started
‘We are absolutely delighted with the horse,’ stable representative for William Haggas Isabella Paul said.
Fallon, son of former English champion hoop Kieren Fallon, had sent the field an ominous warning prior to the victory.
‘Cieren (Fallon) has ridden the most beautiful race and we used that explosive turn of foot and my god, that final 200 metres was so impressive.’
‘He feels great and I think he has grown,’ Fallon declared.
‘He looks much better out here than he has done back home.
‘Issy (Paul) has done a great job with him.’
Japanese horse Ascoli Piceno had been backed heavily at the bookies in the lead up to the race but never really featured.
