UK techno veterans Chemical Brothers deliver knock out show in Sydney featuring dazzling visuals

UK techno dance veterans the Chemical Brothers wowed a packed audience at the Sydney Showground on Thursday night.

The famed house beat duo – consisting of Ed Simons, 53, and Tom Rowlands, 52 – played 23 tunes, including many of their hits, in a set lasting two hours.

And they still left their sweaty fans wanting more.

The famed pair, who have been playing together since 1989, performed their show on a giant stage in front of a screen that projected a dazzling set of film clips and images.

They welcomed the audience by projecting the message ‘Hold Tight Sydney’ and kept fans moving no-stop for the entire show.

At one point a giant green ‘space age boy’ appeared on a screen behind the duo and ‘fired’ green lasers into the audience.

Another impressive set piece featured images of cathedral like stain glass ‘windows’ set against a blood red lighting effect.

For most of the set the Chemical Brothers could only be seen by the audience as dark shapes hidden inside a large stack of technology.

The set list consisted of fan favourites like 2015’s Go, which kicked off the night after the spoken word intro Come with Us.

Other well-known tunes featured on the night included 2003’s Get Yourself High, and MAH from 2019, which received a rapturous welcome from the audience which was filled by long time fans.

The duo also included new songs like Feels Like I Am Dreaming from their 2023 album For That Beautiful Feeling.

Other tunes that kept the kept the crowd buzzing included Swoon, Hey Boy Hey Girl and No Reason.

The six-time Grammy Awards winners, from Manchester, formed in 1989 and have released ten albums since their 1995 debut Exit Planet Dust. 

Their best known albums include Dig You Own Hole (1997) and 1999’s Surrender. 

The duo will next head to Geelong to play a set a the Day on the Green Festival on 2 March. The Sydney show followed their sell out Brisbane gig in February 27.
