Unidentified body found in Murrumbidgee River in Stromlo

  • A body was found partially immersed in the Murrumbidgee River on Saturday 
  • The unidentified body was discovered by bush walkers in Stromlo about 4.30
  • Police say the death appears to have been weeks ago but is not suspicious so far

A body pulled from the Murrumbidgee River in near Canberra on Saturday afternoon has still not been identified more than a day later.

Police were called to a section of the river in Stromlo, about 25km south-west of Canberra, after bush walkers found a body partially immersed in the river. 

The body is believed to have been in the river for some time, and officers told RiotACT the person may have been dead for weeks.

Officers are still yet to release the gender or identity of the body found, but said the death did not appear to be suspicious.

A post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the person’s cause of death, as well as their identity. 

Investigations are ongoing.
