United Airlines has felt the wrath of its passengers after revealing it is taking Biscoff cookies off its complimentary snack menu and replacing them with Oreo Thins.

The Chicago-based airline is refreshing the list of free snacks it hands out to travellers, which also includes pretzels and stroopwafels.

The axing of Biscoff snacks, which have a spiced caramel flavour, has prompted many tweet their displeasure, including Chee, who wrote: ‘United Airlines is changing out the Biscoff cookies for Oreo thins… are they freaking nuts right now?’

Another, called ‘K’, tweeted: ‘United Airlines getting rid of their Biscoff biscuits is honestly the saddest thing I’ve heard this week so far.’

Melanie Clifford said: ‘@United is getting rid of Biscoff and I never want to fly with them again. I don’t want Oreo Thins, I don’t even like them, Biscoff is superior.’

Sarah Bohr wrote: ‘@United do not get rid of the Biscoff cookies are you all insane?’

And Pat Faughnan asked: ‘@United, why would you replace Biscoff cookies with Oreos? Oreos are good but… what do your teeth look like after eating Oreos? No one wants to brush their teeth on a plane!’

Replying to one tweet bemoaning the snack switch, United said: ‘We periodically make updates to our snack offerings to provide our customers with new and different options. We’re going to miss the Biscoff cookies too, but we’re excited to bring Oreos on board.’

While a spokesperson for the airline told Today that Biscoff cookies were not being permanently removed as a snack option, but are just being ‘rotated out’.

MailOnline Travel has contacted United Airlines for comment.

In 2018, United Airlines announced it would be removing stroopwafels, a sweet Dutch snack, off its menu from its early morning US domestic services.

Customers reacted with fury to the news with one tweeting ‘shame on you’ at the carrier and another saying ‘you can lose my suitcases but don’t take my stroopwafel’.

But in January 2019 they had cause to celebrate after United announced it would be making a comeback in the snack rotation.

The removal of tomato juice caused a similar furore.

Flyers lamented the loss of the fruity beverage, but just a day after the controversy, the drink was reinstated.
