University bosses sack hockey captain over ‘chav’ night out

A university hockey club captain who threw a ‘chav night’ for the team’s ‘educated, fair maidens’ has been sacked.

Leeds University women’s hockey club were also banned from matches after they were given a ‘lower class’ dress code for their night out.

The team took boozy selfies and blew kisses while donning tracksuits, fake tattoos and swigging Lambrini.

The Chav Night invite included a dictionary definition of ‘chav’ as ‘a young, lower-class person typified by brash and loutish behaviour’.

‘We educated fair maidens studying in one of the country’s grandest universities would find such behaviour entirely alien,’ it said.

‘We have schooled ourselves in the art of moderation, the ability to say “no” and recognise the need for an early night.’

The invitation said strictly ‘ASBO behaviour expected’ from the girls who were urged to imitate a ‘young, lower-class person’ on’one of the biggest socials of the year.’

One hard-partying girl tagged their location on Instagram as ‘Juvenile Detention Centre’.

Other shots showed girls chugging cheap cider and sambuca while wearing hooped earrings and plastered in fake tan.

They also said ‘for one night only we should set aside all that we believe to be good, honest and noble, and replace our champagne flutes with cans of K cider’.

The antics drew heavy criticism online and ultimately led to the university's student union launching action

The post also encouraged members to have ‘luminous underwear on show’and that ‘skin should be orange’.

The club’s captain also posted on Instagram, with #chavnight and #bringingbackthecornrows.

But the antics drew heavy criticism online and ultimately led to the university’s student union launching action.

Bosses have now now dismissed the captain and barred the team from this year’s Christie Cup, a prestigious contest between three universities in the north of England.

Leeds University Union said: ‘LUU expects all of its clubs and societies to runinclusive and accessible activities, including socials.

‘All clubs and societies commit to uphold the LUU Social Guidelines.’

‘Where we become aware that this is not the case, as in this instance, we will investigate this with the organisers and take disciplinary action against individuals or clubs as appropriate.’

All the club’s social media accounts are frozen, and the union’s sports representative will oversee all closed social media groups for the rest of the academic year.
