A bizarre set of requirements for a entry level IT role has sparked outrage with baffled Aussies claiming the company is ‘taking the p***’.
OracleCMS, a leading call centre based in Melbourne recently advertised a C# Junior developer position which comes with a $45,000-$65,000 a year salary.
The company is looking for an IT graduate with at least a university bachelor’s degree – ‘Master’s preferred’, along with ‘three-plus years’ experience in software development.
Potential applicants are also warned that the job is ‘100 per cent onsite’ and comes with a lengthy list of required skills.
‘Are you obsessed with writing clean and readable code and excited to contribute to programming software that helps customers?’ the listing posted earlier this month stated.
‘Join this dynamic team and play a crucial role in developing B2B management and software applications that are revolutionising the software world.’
The listing sparked outrage with Aussies when it was shared to Reddit on Sunday.
‘WTF is this job listing?’ the author wrote.
A call centre IT job listing has sparked furore among Aussies
‘I don’t understand how they can call a candidate with three-plus years’ experience and preferably a Master’s degree entry level.’
‘What a joke. Would’ve had at least three to four years in university and three years’ real experience for seven total years of learning/experience to be called entry level and an absolute disgrace of a salary.’
The national minimum wage is just below $48,000.
The Professional Employees Award, covering IT workers, stipulates a minimum annual salary of $61,638 for related graduates holding three-year degrees.
‘This is called a red flag company/taking the p***,’ one Aussie commented.
Another sarcastically added: ‘Ah yes, the entry level developer with three years’ team management experience.’
Others wondered whether the company was fudging labour market testing to later sponsor a foreign worker.
Young Aussies said the company was ‘taking the p***’ with the requirements for a ‘junior’ role
‘They’ll use this as an excuse to outsource labour offshore or implement AI. They will never find someone who is ‘suitable’ because the listing is a joke, and someone with a Master’s in CS would be a clown to take it,’ one commented.
Another added: ‘Generally, companies just complete the labour market testing as (a) tick the box exercise and will add a two to three years’ work experience requirement to narrow down applications they receive so doesn’t look as bad when they don’t accept any applicants,’ one said.
But some debunked that theory by pointing out that the salary for the position is below the $74,150 threshold temporary skilled migration visa holders.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted OracleCMS for comment.
It comes month after a major client client data leak earlier in the year.
In April, ransomware operator LockBit leaked more than 60 gigabytes of data to the dark web – including phone numbers and call details from more than 50 of OracleCMS’s clients, according to CyberDaily.
It affected more than a dozen Australian councils – including the City of Sydney, law firms, aged care providers, and others.
In a July update, OracleCMS said the incident response had been finalised.
‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our clients for their understanding and patience and to also thank those government entities who have provided guidance and support throughout our incident response,’ a notice on its site read.
