Unseen photos show Denyer, 44, with his hand on DWTS partner’s thigh

There’s an old saying that the ‘camera never lies’.

But for TV presenter Grant Denyer, having paparazzi shots splashed across the front page of a tabloid magazine proved some photos can indeed be deceptive.

New Idea published a series of images last week of the married Family Feud host, 44, with his hand on the thigh of 22-year-old dancer Lily Cornish, alongside the headline ‘Grant Denyer Caught Out’.

Other images showed the pair – who are partners on the upcoming season of Channel Seven’s Dancing with the Stars: All Stars – linking arms as they walked down the street and later smiling at each other during a boat party.

While the article implied Denyer and Cornish were cheating on their respective partners, the full set of images obtained by Daily Mail Australia tells a different story.

By viewing the images in context, it’s clear their relationship is a platonic one.

While Denyer did place his hand on Cornish’s thigh, there were also other moments when they acted like ordinary friends and colleagues. This photo, for example, shows Denyer appearing to pat Cornish’s thigh in a fatherly manner – which is exactly what he said happened

The images, Denyer said, were taken by a paparazzo just moments after he and Cornish had finished speaking to his wife, Chezzi, over FaceTime. This is backed up by one of the photos, which shows him holding a phone while sitting next to Cornish

New Idea published the images last week alongside the headline ‘Grant Denyer Caught Out’ 

While Denyer did place his hand on Cornish’s thigh at one stage, it wasn’t an intimate gesture like New Idea suggested.

One photo, which the magazine did not publish, appears to show Denyer patting Cornish’s leg in a fatherly manner – which is exactly what he said happened.

There were other moments when they acted like ordinary friends and colleagues.

Shots of them looking chummy at the boat party and linking arms outside were also deceptively cropped to make it appear as if they were alone.

In fact, they were surrounded by their fellow cast members – including the likes of former Bachelorette Angie Kent and The Morning Show host Kylie Gillies – proving there was nothing untoward going on.

It comes after Denyer admitted on Thursday he had ’embarrassed’ his family after he was pictured with his hand on his Cornish’s thigh in between rehearsals for the new season of DWTS: All Stars.

He told 2Day FM’s The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed & Erin the pictures actually showed him consoling his friend after she had received some sad personal news.

The images, he said, were taken by a paparazzo just moments after he and Cornish had finished speaking to his wife, Chezzi, over FaceTime.

This is backed up by one of the photos, which shows Denyer holding a phone while sitting alongside a distressed-looking Cornish.

‘It’s such a horrible, made-up story that’s embarrassing for everyone. We’d just been on the phone to Chezzi, we had been FaceTiming… It had been a bit of a tough day and Lil had a bit going on in her personal life,’ he said.

‘It’s not up to me to divulge what it [the personal issue] is but I was just giving her a bit of a pep talk and fatherly advice,’ he added.

‘I just gave her a tap on the leg and she sort of leaned in for a bit of a hug after a chat and that’s the photo on the [New Idea] front page.’

Cornish also addressed the New Idea story on Thursday, sharing a post to Instagram thanking her fans for being so understanding.

‘Thanks everyone for the kind words and messages. I really appreciate the amount of love that has come out of this yucky / disrespectful situation. Killing it with kindness,’ she wrote.

Denyer and his wife had categorically denied last Monday’s New Idea in a series of social media posts on Wednesday.

Chezzi posted screenshots of the article – which falsely suggested her husband was having an affair with a woman half his age – on Instagram and blasted the magazine for fabricating such a ‘gross and mean’ story.

‘What the actual hell is this front-page crap, New Idea,’ she wrote, adding that the images had been completely taken out of context.

‘Lilz [Cornish] is like our adopted daughter. We grew extremely close during her month long stay with us here in Bathurst. We absolutely adore her!

‘Poor Lilz doesn’t deserve this defamation of character… New Idea, you should be ashamed.’

Chezzi went on to claim the photographer who took the photos had apologised to her for the images being ‘taken out of context’.

She also pointed out that Cornish’s long-term boyfriend, Jock White, had been pictured visiting her during rehearsals for DWTS.

Denyer later issued his own blistering statement, calling the article a ‘brutal’ attack on a ’22-year-old kid’ and a ‘dad of three girls’.

Cornish also addressed the New Idea story on Thursday, sharing this post to Instagram thanking her fans for their ‘kind words and messages’

‘My wife and I are used to fabricated stories from these type of magazine, we’ve had a life of it but for Lily, she’s a 22 yo kid!!’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘This kind of treatment is brutally unfair and disgusting.

‘I’m a Dad of 3 girls. And if any friend is having a bad day or a tough time in their life, I’m going to be there for them. End of story.’

While the magazine remained on newsstands for an entire week, the online version was promptly taken down following the Denyers’ complaints.
