Urgent ‘do not eat’ recall for popular type of carrot cake and muesli over undeclared allergy fears
- Those with nut allergies warned by health chiefs not to eat the cake and muesli
- Customers are being advised to return the products to the retailers
Health chiefs have recalled a popular type of carrot cake and a brand of muesli for containing nuts without a warning label for allergy sufferers.
Britain’s food safety watchdogs issued the urgent warnings for certain packs of Melting Moments carrot cakes, which contain peanuts and Rude Health organic ultimate muesli, which contain Brazil nuts.
Both products should have nuts listed as an ingredient to warn people who suffer from allergy to avoid them.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) told the public to not eat the products if they have an allergy to Brazil nuts or peanuts and instead return them to where they purchased for a full refund.
About one in 50 children and one in 100 adults suffer from a nut allergy in the UK.
Food safety watchdogs have issued an urgent recall on the Melting Moment carrot cakes because they have not been labelled properly as containing peanuts
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has told the public not to eat the Rude Health organic ultimate muesli if they have a Brazil nut allergy and to return it if they have purchased this item with a best before date of February 8, 2024
Symptoms of an allergic reaction to nuts can vary but can include a rash, swellings, or vomiting in mild cases.
More serious cases can trigger a life-threatening condition called anaphylaxis, where the allergic reaction makes it harder to breathe and cause blood pressure to plummet.
Sufferers can experience symptoms straight after eating a food they are allergic to or it can trigger days later, according to the NHS.
Emergency medicines called adrenaline auto-injectors, such as EpiPen, are used in the most severe reactions.
The frosted carrot cakes made by Melting Moments are sold in packs of six.
Packs with best before dates of April 26, 2023 and May 1, 2023 are those being recalled due to containing peanuts not mentioned on the label.
The muesli is made by Rude Health with batches sold in 400g boxes and best before date of February 24, 2024 being recalled because they contain Brazil nuts not mentioned on the label.
No other batches of the Ultimate Muesli or other Rude Health products are affected by the recall.
Britons who believe they may have bought the affected items and have an allergy to peanuts or Brazil nuts have been urged not to eat them and contact their retailer for a refund.
