An urgent recall has been issued for eight varieties of popular light-up shoes sold at Big W.
Product Safety Australia has recalled the Caprice Australia’s light up thongs over concerns the two batteries pose a potential safety hazard to young children.
The thongs come in a variety of design themes including Barbie, Frozen, Spiderman, Star Wars, L.O.L Surprise! OMG, and Minecraft.

The PSA said that the small battery compartment on the thongs may become exposed over time, making it easier for children to access the two small button batteries.
‘If young children gain access to the button batteries and ingest them, they may suffer severe internal burn injuries, which can result in serious illness or death,’ it said.
‘Button batteries also pose a choking hazard to young children.’
The thongs have been available for purchase online and in store at Big W since September 7 2020 but have not been sold since May 11 2022

Customers are urged to immediately stop using the shoes and return them to any Big W Australia store for a full refund.
