Urgent search for missing fisherman Darryn Kimlin comes to grim end

The search for a missing fisherman in Queensland has come to a tragic end after a body was discovered. 

Darryn Kimlin, 42, was last seen departing from the Lamington Bridge Boat Ramp in Maryborough in North Queensland about 10am on Saturday.

Mr Kimlin had set off on a solo fishing trip. 

Friends told police they expected Mr Kimlin to return about midday on Sunday. 

Mr Kimlin’s family said they spoke with him at 10pm on Saturday and were told he was fishing in the river mouth at Beaver Rock, about 25 minutes away from where he set off.

Marine Rescue Queensland and PolAir joined the search on Monday, locating Mr Kimlin’s 5m fibreglass half-cabin boat named Tamarumma. 

The search for Mr Kimlin continued and was called off when night fell. 

A member of the public called police about 6.15am on Tuesday after discovering a body in the search area. 

‘Forensic examinations are underway to formally identify the man,’ police said.

‘Investigations into the circumstances of the man’s death are ongoing, however the death is being treated as non-suspicious at this stage.’
