US Olympic star Ilona Maher, Super Bowl winner Danny Amendola and NBA legend Dwight Howard join Stephen Nedoroscik as athletes on Dancing With the Stars

The newest cast of Dancing With the Stars has five competitors with sports ties, headlined by two American bronze medalists at the Paris Olympics.

‘Pommel Horse guy’ Stephen Nedoroscik was previously announced as part of the cast, but he’s joined by rugby star Ilona Maher.

Nedoroscik will be paired with Rylee Arnold, who will be making her second appearance as a professional dancer on the show. Maher will dance with Alan Bersten, a previous winning pro.

NBA legend Dwight Howard will also join the cast alongside previous Super Bowl winner Danny Amendola.

Amendola will dance with returning professional Witney Carson, a five-time finalist on the show, while Howard is paired with Daniella Karagach, who won a previous season with fellow basketball player Iman Shumpert.

Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brooks Nader is also on the cast, paired with Gleb Savchenko.

Sports stars have dominated Dancing with the Stars in previous years, dating back to the early days of the show.

In Season 2, which aired in 2006, NFL legend Jerry Rice and former WWE star Stacy Keibler both made the finale.

Then the show had four straight winners with sports backgrounds in Emmitt Smith, Apolo Anton Ohno, Hélio Castroneves, and Kristi Yamaguchi.

Shawn Johnson, Hines Ward, Donald Driver, Rashad Jennings, Adam Rippon, and Shumpert complete the sports star to have won a season of Dancing With the Stars.

Shumpert is the latest sports star to win the show, having done so three years ago.
