Leeds United’s USA experiment has ended in disaster after the Premier League club was relegated on the final day of the season.

The Yorkshire side’s three-season stay in the English top-flight ended with little more than a whimper as Tottenham cruised to a 4-1 win at Elland Road Sunday.

Leeds drop back down to the Championship after a season that saw American coach Jesse Marsch fired and USA stars Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie brought in.

McKennie’s short-lived time with Leeds came to an acrimonious ending, with some of the home support reportedly chanting; ‘you fat b*****d’ at the Juventus man.

The Texan played 60 minutes in the lackluster affair and was promptly substituted as Aaronson came on for the final half-hour along with two of his teammates.

According to Italy’s Gazetta dello Sport, McKennie is not considered to be in parent club Juventus’s plans with a need to balance the books after the Old Lady were found guilty in a case over previous transfer dealings.

Leeds’ other American, Tyler Adams, did not feature in the game after undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury in late March.

The Whites needed a strong victory, and some help from Bournemouth against Everton to have any hope of avoiding relegation heading into the final day of the season.

Though, they were behind within two minutes thanks to Harry Kane. Spurs went 2-0 ahead before Jack Harrison pulled one back for Leeds. Kane and Lucas Moura then compiled the misery on the Elland Road support.

The trio are expected to be among a group of players that will have to be moved on  now that Leeds are relegated.

Leeds would look to raise in excess of £100m ($124m) ahead of a return to the Championship and reshaping the squad would be a challenge given Allardyce’s observation that it currently isn’t big enough.

Adams has made the biggest impact of the three since their respective arrivals in the north of England.

The former Leipzig man is reportedly attracting interest from ‘multiple Premier League clubs and teams in Europe’s other top leagues’ with Leeds concerned as to whether they can keep him. He was signed from Germany for $25million last July.

Aaronson the first of the US collection to arrive at Elland Road in May 2022 for a reported $30m fee from Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg.

While sitting 17th in the table – one place clear of the relegation zone – Leeds fired American head coach Jesse Marsch on February 6.
