Lawmakers in Utah are urging members to use a ‘buddy system’ to prevent them from getting screwed over by hookers following Utah state Rep. Jon Stanard’s scandal, and resignation.
‘We feel like it’s appropriate at this time to put everybody on alert there may be people with mal-intent that are trying to, for money, try to put us in a situation,’ Republican Senate President Wayne Niederhauser said in a meeting with reporters and Senate leadership on Friday.
Niederhauser was referring to call girl Brie Taylor’s claims to DailyMail.com that Stanard, 43, paid her for sex twice.
Now another lawmaker has come forward to say a woman tried to ‘honeypot’ him in a hotel where one of the alleged liaisons took place.
Friday’s meeting of Utah Senate leadership took an unexpected turn when Senator Evan Vickers (pictured) said a woman tried to entrap him at a hotel where Jon Stanard allegedly had trysts with a prostitute; Senate President Wayne Niederhauser urged his constituents to ‘walk in groups’
Utah state Rep. Jon Stanard (pictured on January 22) may have stayed in taxpayer or campaign-funded hotel rooms when he had trysts with a prostitute last summer
Call girl Brie Taylor (above) told DailyMail.com on Wednesday that Stanard paid her for sex during two business trips to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2017
Senator Evan Vickers during Friday’s meeting said: ‘I opened the door and there was a young lady standing there and she said ‘Hi,’ and I said, ‘Hi, who are you?’ And she said, ‘I’m your date.’ I said, ‘No, you’re not.’ She said, ‘Yes, I’m your date.”
Vickers said he fled the room, according to Fox13, locked the door and called a colleague for help.
‘She was standing in front of the elevator and I said, ‘I don’t know who you are and what you’re doing here,’ and she said, ‘No, you don’t understand. I’m your date.’ I said, ‘No I’m not’ and walked back into the room,” he recalled.
‘I believe that this was more of a setup, and I also believe Sen. Vickers was caught by surprise,’ House Majority Whip Francis Gibson said.
Niederhauser said lawmakers should ‘walk in groups’ to avoid being entrapped by women with cruel intentions.
The dates of Taylor and Stanards hook-ups correspond to times Stanard was staying at a Residence Inn in Salt Lake City for legislative sessions. Above, the Residence Inn closest to the Utah state Capitol. It’s unclear if this is the exact Residence Inn he stayed at
The Utah House of Representatives was also sending out a warning to its members about incidents and urging them to use the ‘buddy system’ when off the Hill.
Earlier this week it was revealed that taxpayer funds were used to pay for at least two of the hotel rooms that Stanard allegedly used to meet up with Taylor last year, according to records found by a state House of Representatives official.
DailyMail.com revealed exclusively on Thursday Stanard, who is married with three kids, twice hired a prostitute in 2017.
Jon E. Stanard is a married Republican lawmaker who voted for stricter laws against prostitution. He is seen above on the left with his wife, Leanne, and one of their three children
The allegations were a shock since Stanard preaches family values and has fought to get stricter solicitation laws.
After the report was published, House and state elections officials said they were checking to see if taxpayer or campaign money was used for Stanard’s hotel stays with the prostitute.
House Chief of Staff Greg Hartley told the Associated Press in a text message that Stanard, who resigned Tuesday night, was reimbursed for hotel stays in Salt Lake City in June and August 2017 when Stanard was attending legislative meetings at the state Capitol, four hours from his home in St. George.
TEXTS THAT ARE ALLEGED TO BE BETWEEN STANARD AND TAYLOR:
The phone number the text messages were sent from matches Stanard’s public profile on the Utah House of Representatives website. Above and below are some of the texts Stanard exchanged with the prostitute
In a text exchange dated March 7, 2017, Stanard informs Taylor he would not be able to meet her because he needed to take care of his sick son
In one particular exchange, Taylor asks Stanard if she should bring any ‘accessories’ or ‘toys’, perhaps a ‘corset’
Judging by her Facebook page, Leanne Stanard holds socially conservative views just like her husband
