The former Manchester City favourite has a good track record in England having managed Brentford, Wigan Athletic, Leeds United and Fleetwood Town and developed a reputation for playing attacking football with a solid defence.

He has also enjoyed success in Norway and Sweden too but maintains strong connections in the North West.

Preston face Swansea on Monday as they strive to finish the season on a high after slipping to 17th in the Championship table. They are willing to give McAvoy a run in charge before confirming their next manager.

Rosler’s broad experience and ability to work within a tight budget will stand him in good stead though as Preston assess their candidates at the end of the season.
